Tips to Prevent Knee Pain While Running

Best Running Advice to Avoid Knee Pain

Fall is just around the corner, so you know what that means: cooler days. With a drop in the temperature, it is the perfect running weather as you can enjoy the beautiful scenery without dripping sweat or the presence of bugs.

However, we don’t want you to miss out on the autumn festivities due to knee pain aggravated by exercising; read on to learn the most beneficial running practices!

Take Short Strides

Whether you are walking or running, take little strides. Your feet should touch the ground directly underneath the body. Extended steps can lead to injury as you can trip and fall (e.g., on a tree root). A good tip to follow: if your lower legs stretch out in front of your body, your stride is not short enough.

Loosen Arms

While partaking in physical activity, ensure that your arms are not tense to prevent soreness. Try to lower the arms and shake them every now and then to allow your muscles to loosen. If you tighten your arms consistently, your upper body becomes overworked, which causes pain.

Look Straight

Although watching where you step is essential, consider looking ahead to avoid having your head downwards. Keeping your head straight will help guide the rest of your body to do the same, creating good posture. With proper form, exercising will feel like a walk in the park!
